Here's another reason why 2020 was a good year to unleash a pandemic (real or hoax) on the world: the holidays were just about perfect. Valentine's was a Friday (but before the nonsense took hold, they missed it), Easter was right around spring break for schools (U.S.), July 4th was a Saturday, Halloween is a Saturday, Christmas and New Years (technically 2021) are also on Fridays. If you wanted to hit where it hurt economically, targeting a year where holidays would generate more economic activity than normal is just about ideal. And before anyone starts playing the "it wasn't just the US that was hit" card, these weekend holidays are celebrated worldwide, I'm not talking about just the U.S. though I still have zero doubt about the U.S. being the primary target.
