Young women are intentionally getting fat. They post photos of their progress in their goal of getting "thicc". It doesn't help that young men encourage it.
Here's an easy test: I don't have this data, but I would love to see "obese" stats by age.
If there are just as many (percent wise) old as young - then we can say it has no affect on health.
But my general (amateur) observation is that there are far more obese middle age folks than "old" folks...and it's
not because they lost weight later.
Being overweight kills. How MUCH overweight is a problem to be reckoned with, but, like porn, we all know it when we see it. If you want to discount some folks on the "theoretical" obese stat bubble - that's fine - but it will barely move the needle on the overall count. Look around.
There is NO evidence that being obese is healthy - and there is a TON of evidence it is NOT healthy, for everything from your heart to your knees. Again - it's a choice. Lots of people make unhealthy choices. The question is NOT about your right to choose unhealthy things. The question is - WHY DO WE SUPPORT YOUR UNHEALTHY CHOICE? No reason at all. We should mock your unhealthy choice, just like we do for smoking commercials using a woman with a hole in her throat, or a meth user with no teeth, or a tobacco chewer with throat cancer. Yes, I said mock. Use your own work. All the same. Kinder words are available - but it won't change the content of the effective commercial.
We mock people who don't wear helmets or seatbelts. We mock people who don't use child seats. We even mock people who like sun tans. All of those are choices, and not good ones, if health is your priority - same with weight. I cannot figure out why it's so offensive - I am not offended when people yell at me for drinking a gallon of coffee every day.
What about drinking? Gambling? Lots...and lots...of bad choices...texting and driving...? Yep. We mock them all.

But not weight. Why?
Because a solid majority of people are overweight. It's hard to mock normal without coming across as a jerk.
Another example is 7-11. Twenty or so years ago, the only hot ready to eat junk food in 7-11 was the hot dog turners and maybe nachos. Now look how much absolute hot ready to eat junk food is in there. It's friggin amazing! I wouldn't feed my dog that stuff, let alone feed it to a human being. An entire large grease pizza with extra cheese and processed meat-stuff byproducts, all for an amazing low price of $5 - $7 dollars.
IT really comes down to 2 things, MOVE MORE or EAT/DRINK LESS.
