This study tests different messages about vaccinating against COVID-19 once the vaccine becomes available. Participants are randomized to 1 of 12 arms, with one control arm and one baseline arm. We will compare the reported willingness to get a COVID-19 vaccine at 3 and 6 months of it becoming available between the 10 intervention arms to the 2 control arms.
4000 participants were randomized to receive 1 of 12 messages:
Control message
Baseline message
Personal freedom message
Economic freedom message
Self-interest message
Community interest message
Economic benefit message
Guilt message
Embarrassment message
Anger message
Trust in science message
Not bravery message
Example message (see link for full description for each):
Economic benefit
This message is about how COVID-19 is wreaking havoc on the economy and the only way to strengthen the economy is to work together to get enough people vaccinated.
Anger
The message is about the danger that COVID-19 presents to the health of one's family and community. The best way to protect them is by getting vaccinated and by working together to make sure that enough people get vaccinated. Then it asks the participant to imagine the anger they will feel if they don't get vaccinated and spread the disease.

Are people still not understanding this yet? When people say there is brainwashing going on and it's dismissed as 'conspiracy' ... here's exhibit A.
There is so much conspiracy BS going around about the vaccine research efforts that it's going to take quite a bit of convincing to that broad segment of the populace (likely at least 25%) subject to falling for such absurd theories to get vaccinated once it becomes availalle.

No.
It's psychological manipulation. Which has NOTHING to do with science.
Explain how the economy relates to my health status. It doesn't.
Explain how guilt is a medical reason to take a drug. It's not.
You are already manipulated and you don't even know it.
Nope, I can read the science data directly, something most people don't seem to be able to do.
The stupidity of the stuff I've heard on the vaccine research efforts from low information Americans is truly laughable.
Clearly strong arguments will have to be marshaled to get a broad majority of the populace vaccinated.
There are strong arguments not to take the vaccine, which are based in science.
The fact that Yale is doing a study on how to manipulate and con the public into taking it PROVES just how weak the arguments are FOR the vaccine. That's apparent.
They are anticipating people DON'T want it because there is no value in taking a vaccine for a mild virus with a 99% recovery rate. Not interested = knows the facts. So the tactic is to resort to nonscientific and nonmedical reasons to get the vaccine.
Even a middle-schooler knows this study and this brainwashing agenda is crap.

Yep. We see it happening already. For instance, we have MAGAs here who are convinced there will be a tracking chip in any COVID vaccine.
The anti-vaxxers will be out in force trying to convince Americans to bypass a vaccine when it becomes available. Thankfully, the majority of Americans aren't that stupid. But look for the OP and the like to keep pushing misinformation in an attempt to convince those who remain swayable due to ignorance.
Err... psychology is a science. If it can be measured by multiple independent observers, it's part of science.
You believe psychological manipulation to take drugs is science?
So you like drug lords that prey on kids in the street?
Wow.
