Nope. I'm not trying to scare anyone. Can you say the same? Nope. You can't.

Sorry folks, I know some of you want the virus to be this apocalyptic, end of humanity virus that the media make it out to be. However, its not even anything close to the Spanish flu, bubonic plague or anything like it. With a 98% survival rate, you guys still act like people are dropping dead in the streets.

We don't need to wait around for a vaccine. Keep the most vulnerable population at home, sheltered, protected. The rest of us have to keep moving forward.

Aren't you just a useful one?

if it were as deadly as you claim, we'd all be dead.

We're not.

The data does, indeed, speak for itself. Are you listening???
Are YOU reading and listening? I didn't say "if it were as deadly as you claim, we'd all be dead." or anything close to it. Show me EXACTLY where I said that?

"MORE deadly" is NOT "we'd all be dead." The fact is, best case, CV is at least twice as deadly as the flu and FAR MORE contagious. Which makes it a much serious threat because.

160K deaths in the space of five months is 3x the flu in a year.

CV is MORE DEADLY.

Nor did Suzy say anything that wasn't true,

Suzy said NOTHING to scare anyone. Pray, tell EXACTLY what in her post is scaremongering?

Reading comprehension matters.

Sounds like many are underestimating the human body + modern technical medicine.

There are few reports of second infections anywhere in the world. And we have more than 7 months now. Because infections activate our bodies immune system, as it always has. We don't know yet how long. In asymptomatic infections, the AB response is lower and goes away sooner. With significantly infected patients, they seem to get at least months of measurable AB.

This is what vaccines do as they imitate infections, and worst case we will need this one more frequently. Not the end of the world.

Plus, we have soon to be released monoclonal, man made AB treatments. These mimic our bodies natural response, and might help eliminate more serious infections before vaccines are widespread. This may be the treatment key that makes the virus less than lethal for our most risky patients in the next few months.

It's not "you guys" predicting this stuff. It's doctors and medical experts. The opinions of people on this forum doesn't matter. I choose to listen to the people who know what's going on, thank you.

^^I agree with that. From what I've read on the Science Thread, the treatments continue to improve, so the death rate will hopefully decline. Doesn't help with the contagion, however - which is what is so problematic right now in getting back to normalcy. The economic damage of a prolonged one-half business as usual is incalculable. Open/close schools, sporting events, restaurants, hotels, etc. That's the really awful part long-term. It will be the vaccine that gets us moving again.
