I spent 10 years in IT consulting for federal government, the H1-B program getting abused heavily by Indian bodyshops who staff contractors without actual vetted background or experience. They are filling positions and milking system heavily relying on just a few real hardworkers who pulling projects on their shoulders.

Many H1-Bs are given to people with fraudulent resumes, and no one vets them. Meanwhile, an American can't get away with a fraudulent resume.

Yup e.g. his wife #3

At the time she immigrated to the US, she did so in accordance with the law. It's not like he was president then and had any say when it came to law making.

I'm dating an Indian-American woman and her family used to be huge Trump supporters but recently due to his policies they feel slighted and aren't going to vote. 50,000 Indian-Americans attended a Modi/Trump rally in Houston. It was a huge deal. And he has abandoned that electorate completely. It makes no sense...why was he putting so much effort into reaching out to the Indian-American community in the first place?

Yeah anti-immigration people, he had you at 'hello', you guys were already going to vote for him. But you alone won't win it for him this time.

Using the term "Indian-American" says that they are American citizens. Thus, the whole H1-B issue doesn't affect them. It makes no sense to say that Trump has "abandoned" them.

Why would anyone think otherwise?

American Citizens of India origin voted like 86 % in favor of Hillary Clinton last time. They will never support Trump even though a majority of them are very conservative at heart. Reason is that in Trump Administration, they feel like second grade citizen. At the end of day they are clubbed together as Indian (whether US Citizen, Green card holder, H1B visa or undocumented)

Both US and Indian IT Firms circumvent the rules to promote outsourcing of jobs.

US companies like IBM will pass on work to IBM India and bring Indian contractors from there on H-1 or L-1.

Indian companies have purchased small companies in USA to win contracts and pass on the work to india.

Then a game is played like Client A Location A get changed to Client B Location B.

Change of visa category while a person is still in USA should be stopped. It overlooks the scruitiny as that person is never called for any interview in front of embassy / consulate. An immigrant enters USA on Dependent / Student visa and then change the category to H1b visa after reaching USA once a consulting firm submit paperwork thru a lawyer.
