The infection of the "locked up" seniors was brought in by people from outside their residences, people who did not know they were infected.

What is it that you want? Should sick people be quarantined or the entire population?
Sick people are isolated. People who may be infected but are not yet showing signs of illness are quarantined. Those, along with contact tracing, are standards of infection control.

During the measles outbreak in NY last year, health authorities resorted to fines because people were not only refusing to quarantine after exposure to measles they were refusing to isolate the sick, deliberately exposing others to the virus. That is why it took almost a year to control the outbreaks there.

If people who are infected but not sick would voluntarily isolate themselves, then what NZ plans to do would not be necessary, and what they are doing is isolating infected people.

Please link to any post where I have advocated quarantining the "entire population".

No they don't. They created some really great Camps, for Japanese Americans during ww2, then 20 years later created some wonderful high rise Ghettos for Black people

I think this is an extreme and dangerous measure but have seen people comment in other forums that this is a good move. Just wondering what others think of this. Would you support forcing people to quarantine in the USA, away from their homes if they tested positive for Covid? Is it worth it in order to eliminate Covid?
During the early stages of the virus people coming back from China were quarantined in hospitals and hotels in the UK and other countries.

However such measures only work in order to try and prevent the virus taking hold, rather than in relation to later stages when the virus has spread.

Oh, OK. Your nation has accepted wholesale tyranny to eradicate a disease with a 0.3% fatality rate.

But don't worry, there's not much fear that you can see.

The end.

P.S. Oh wait, forgot something, states (in US) have huge powers in cases of public health emergencies, and they can quarantine as they see fit.
No one ever guaranteed you freedom and safety at the same time.

Sounds like a wonderful place. One time I imagined immigrating there...except they hardly let anyone in.

One of the scary things about Covid restrictions such as this---is that you have no one to advocate for you when alone in these places. Your loved ones can't see you. And who knows...maybe they decide a phone is too germy and take it away. And then, if THEY decide you need to be hospitalized, there is no one to advocate for you in the hospital. Or what if you don't want to be hospitalized, and they take you anyway?

There's lots of stories coming out of Elmhurst hospital (NY) about the chaos during the peak. The neglect, incompetence, deadly mistakes....and they had no one to speak up on their behalf because it wasn't allowed. You're at the mercy of the state, or the medical establishment. Which is worse? I've advocated for hospitalized family members and prevented disasters....That is another angle to the issue of forced quarantine 'hotels.'

1. Lol. Sure, the US numbers are probably higher due to undercounting in the early days when the federal government totally botched the testing.

2. Do you even comprehend the two orders of magnitude difference?

3. You think that deaths in nursing homes should not count?
