The left likes to use political attacks that are fabricated as a whole but have internal consistency. The cheapest thing to do is to accuse their enemies of what they are doing. It also desensitizes it. If you stink raise a bigger stink. It must be plausible because its their own experience, and it will ring true.
All good tactics have drawbacks. The main draw back is one can know exactly what they are doing, or if you find out what they are doing, the next plan of attack. It actuality like researching an acting role. To credibly accuse say Trump of doing something , do it and sound very well informed.
