In a Sunday morning tweet, the President said the US Department of Education would investigate whether California schools are using the New York Times' "1619 Project" in public school curriculum. The Pulitzer-Prize winning collection reframes American history around the date of August 1619, when the first slave ship arrived on America's shores.

The 1619 Project was launched by the New York Times Magazine last year. After the launch, the Pulitzer Center was named an education partner for the project and announced its education team would develop educational resources and curricula for teachers to use. The 1619 Project curriculum is available online for free through the center.

Trump has also sought to draw contrast with Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in the months before the election. Trump has vowed to protect monuments, including those dedicated to Confederate figures, called the phrase "Black Lives Matter" a "symbol of hate" and threatened to withhold funding from cities in blue states that he says are permitting unrest in the streets.

The President and Attorney General William Barr have said that they don't believe systemic racism exists in the United States.
Trump is now trying to prevent students from learning the true history of slavery in the USA without the white saviors in it. Trump being a racist is trying to stop it. This is nothing new.
great news. dump that ahistorical bowel movement down the toilet where it belongs.

.Nevertheless, it bears pointing out that on many of the claims of historical “fact” that it makes, the 1619 Project has been challenged directly by reputable historians who have diligently chronicled that no honest reading of American history would support most of the incendiary claims it makes, particularly about the American founding. Though this entry does not intend to engage with the historical and other rebuttals to the 1619 Project, many such criticisms and refutations have been written, for just a few examples, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.
the 1619 project was created to produce a new generation of victims via the education system...there's already tons of information out there about the subject...i'm not sure what else there is to tell.

You can learn about the history of slavery without the 1619 project. Its director, Nicole Hannah Jones, admitted it wasn't history:
“I’ve always said that the 1619 Project is not a history. It is a work of journalism that explicitly seeks to challenge the national narrative and, therefore, the national memory. The project has always been as much about the present as it is the past.”
It's a work of activism and ideology, and as such only has a place in a classroom if presented in that context and if students are exposed to alternative views, including fact checking. To make it part of a 'history' curriculum is biased. It should definitely not be an official part of any taxpayer funded curriculum.
It has also been described as an 'origin story.' Okay, so is the book of Genesis. Keep it out of schools.
Also, people should distance themselves from Hannah-Jones for her glorification of violence. When asked if the George Floyd riots could be named the "1619 riots" she said she would be 'honored.' Seriously?? Over 30 people have died so far, and countless businesses and communities have been destroyed. That is not an honor.
I have no problem teaching kids the truth about this country but as long as it’s the entire truth. Make sure they teach that Africans are mostly responsible for the slave trade and it’s still happening there.
The last thing we need are more socialist/democrat "projects". The projects they've tried so far almost always universally suck. Let people live their lives free for a change. Free from coercion and manipulation from socialists. I would not want my children to grow up in a socialist jungle.
