Younger daughter was recently divorced so that alone puts a kink in the plans. Which parent will get the kids for what Holiday?

Older daughter's wife works retail but that store is closing for Thanksgiving this year (and Christmas). Daughter works 2 jobs; Security in a college and overnights at Hospital. Doubt school's security will be off, but hospitals definitely don't close on holidays. Add to problem we live 3 hours away in another state.

We are definitely going need a lot of planning this year. We will be getting together no question. If not on these holidays, then before or after them which has been done in past.

Life issues are more of a problem than the virus. We don't have stay at home orders here in PA. NY doesn't either. It is only for LARGE groups. We don't have a large family.

Thanksgiving & Christmas dinner gatherings are a great place to catch a viral infection. I once caught one at an in-law's TG dinner that I didn't recover from until New Year's.

I normally don't do Christmas. The last few years I've been having TG dinner with neighbors & friends, but unless they plan to do it outside this year, which is possible in the south, I won't be attending.

You can't "cancel" a holiday but it will probably look different, especially for those that have very large families. I used to be envious of the big 30-50 holiday gatherings people have but this year our small family may be a blessing. Expecting people to keep it strictly within their household is a stretch, especially for people that live alone.

California is hell bent on keeping the "same household rule" until at least election day. I'm giving them a 50/50 chance of changing that rule after the election.

What's the problem?

POTUS Trump has said we will all have vaccinations by then.

It will be exactly the same for my family. We haven't kept the "same household" rule for months. My family is small and we all see each other as part of our quarantine group. Everyone has them, and they are getting bigger all the time.

Probably not. Those holidays are after the election, and the ONLY reason the media/Democrats are pushing the COVID-19 hysteria is because of the election.

Also the chances of Christmas being canceled go way up if Biden wins. He's vowed to shut down the country if there's any uptick in COVID cases.
