Senator Collin's statement is clearly written with her senate campaign in Maine in mind. Here are the words of her statement. Nowhere in it does she state if she will vote, or how she will vote:
“In order for the American people to have faith in their elected officials, we must act fairly and consistently—no matter which political party is in power. President Trump has the constitutional authority to make a nomination to fill the Supreme Court vacancy, and I would have no objection to the Senate Judiciary Committee's beginning the process of reviewing his nominee's credentials."
“Given the proximity of the presidential election, however, I do not believe that the Senate should vote on the nominee prior to the election. In fairness to the American people, who will either be re-electing the President or selecting a new one, the decision on a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court should be made by the President who is elected on November 3rd.â€
This is a very careful word parsing exercise written for her campaign, and it really tells us nothing of substance about what she intends to do here.
And she didn't say the Senate shouldn't vote after election day.
She said the pick should be made by the president elected on Nov. 3, but again, that's just her saying what she thinks about it, not about how she'd vote.
If the vote were held after the election, it would be one of the last things she does in her political career since she's not winning re-election. Does she want one of the last things she does to be protecting the country from unconstitutional far left policy for a decade or does she want the last thing she does to be enabling some of that policy? That's really the question.
Depending on what happens in Arizona and the timing, the Dems may have 46+2 before Jan 3rd.
Which is why they'll definitely vote for confirmation before the election.
