Unlike the incident in Arizona that has people commenting, this one is the actual Senator running for reelection, not a staffer

And of course, rather than apologizing at Mark Kelly has done, Perdue's staff doubled down and suggested it didn't mean anything for him to deliberately mispronounce the name of the first Black and East Indian female Vice Presidential nominee - who has also been his Senate colleague for several years
Joe couldn't remember Mitt Romney's name the other day and they ran against him. People make flubs - even liberals although you don't notice your own gaffe - you just want to make everything racial.

I'll be very honest with you though - I don't know how to pronounce or spell 1/2 of these black names these days. There is nothing racial about it - it's outside my norm not unlike many of the Indian doctor's I worked with in the hospitals - real tongue twisters.

How long had he been with her in the Senate? Why is he acting like her name is hard to pronounce? He must be a moron.

He's in a much tighter race than he expected. Sounds like it's getting to him.

Making a big deal about a name that doesn't sound 'Murican to them tends to be a hallmark of xenophobes. Most Americans can handle a name that isn't John or Mary. Especially when it's a coworker he's worked with for years. Do you actually believe he doesn't know how to say her name?

It must be tough being a liberal and having to keep up with daily changes to the definitions of words. Mocking Harris' name, while a bit childish, is not racist. You appear to believe "racist" means saying mean things to someone. It doesn't. Look it up. Threads like this just reveal how desperate Dems have become. No legitimate issue? Let's just make one up by changing the definitions of words!

This is what you'll get if you vote for Biden/Harris Harris/Biden. When are we all going to start fighting back against this nonsense? I for one am exhausted from it and cannot wait for this election cycle to be over and done with.

Mispronouncing a name intentionally like this Republican did is what immature adolescent bullies do. He is not fit to hold office with that kind of behavior, another Trump. On top of it, just like Trump, he insults the intelligence of his constituents by thinking they will be pleased because they are all bigoted morons like him. Americans are decent people, morons will be morons.

Yes. First, I doubt they were hanging buddies, so he probably called her Senator Harris.

Second, through the years I have heard reporters refer to her as Ka-mill-la, Ka-maul-la, Ka-may-la, Ka-mel-a, Kam-a-la, and Ka-may-a. This included during her primary run. She happens to one of those names that gets mangled. I agree news organizations should have been correcting themselves all along, but no big deal was made of it until she was put on the ticket as VP. Then all of the sudden it became the sign of a racist to be confused about her name.

It’s ridiculous. I’ve had many students through the years of every race have to correct people on how to pronounce their name. I’m sure it is annoying, just ask any Tanya/Tonya or Joan/Joanne whose parents spelled their name one way but called their kid the other.

Agree, which is why I referred to it as childish. The title of the thread referred to the remarks as racist, which they're not.

Just out of curiousity - are you OK with calling someone a racist with no evidence? Dems do it all the time. Are they insulting the intelligence of the constituents? Is it bullying? What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Nobody is buying the Dem's faux moral outrage anymore. If you bully everyone constantly, expect to get it right back.
