Depends. If I'm being forced to...no way! If I'm being given tax credits, or some other incentives, I'd be open to it.

None of the current electric verhicles meet our needs, but they are coming out with a few in 2021 that will.

I'm also keeping eye open for the hydrogen fuel cell cars, which will likely overtake electric battery cars w/in 5 years.

Yeah it is coming. It won't be tomorrow or next year, but in 20 years we will be driving electric vehicles for the most part. By that time, the challenges for driving range and safety will be largely overcome.

There will still be a need for internal combustion engines for heavy trucks and off highway, and jet engines will still require aviation fuel, but the day of the ICE is waning.

Not to say I won't have some nostalgia for a 1970 Chevelle with a 450 HP 7.4-liter Big-Block V8 but the times they are a changing.

American is not dependent Middle East for oil.

Most American oil is exported. We are like a Muslim hog farmer...we don't consume our own product.

Until American refineries set themselves up to refine American heavy sulfur crude oil instead of Middle Eastern "light, sweet" crude, then, yes, we are dependent on Middle East oil.

If and when they develop an electric compact SUV or minivan under $20,000 (even used) with a 500-mile range, I'll have no problem owning it.

I don't really think they'll have one before I get too old to drive, but conceptually I have no problem with it.

Well, my daily driver is a Chevy Volt, so it's the best of both worlds. When the battery range is depleted the gas generator kicks on. It's basically an EV without range anxiety.

However, when it comes to hauling lumber, or towing my tractor, no choice but to use my V8 powered Tundra.

Nope. You'll have to pry my hard earned, lovely luxury vehicle from my dead hands.

You have it backwards. The Middle East (and Russia) and praying for a Biden win. They absolutely HATE the fact that the US has become the worlds largest oil producer. They would be more than happy to fill the void.

False analogy. The free market proved the automobile more convenient, economical and efficient than the horse and buggy. Biden wants the government to force upon the market the less convenient, economical and efficient electric car that was a failure vs the gas cars over 100 years ago,

I'm not sure why you think non-fossil fuel vehicles are particularly a Biden proposal. They have been a thing for a while now, and anyone who thinks a significant majority of vehicles sold in 2035 will be gas-powered is delusional.

You can keep your fossil fuel truck if you want, but there will quickly be a time when you won't be able to buy a new one. That's a good thing, too.
