Trump made this happen. Great news!
Unlike Pfizer/ BioNTech, Moderna took federal grant monies, approved by Congress, to help fund trials.

No question, any POTUS and Congress would have done likewise, under similar circumstances.

He worked so hard on that research but I hear he has a skill for it.

As the world races to find a cure somehow in the USA it is all about the President. Rest of the world sees the scientists as the real heros.

Thank you President Trump, OWS, and all the men & women who worked on this. Absolutely amazing accomplishment.

He didn't give it -- WE gave it.

And the feds handed out all kinds of money. One company was given 1.6 billion dollars -- and they have NEVER brought a product to market.

The federal government gave Novavax $1.6 billion to expedite the development of a coronavirus vaccine. It’s the largest deal to date from Operation Warp Speed, the sprawling federal effort to make coronavirus vaccines and treatments available to the American public as quickly as possible.

Key factor here - this company has NEVER brought product to market.

That's a big gamble -- that we lost. I would have stuck with the known folks.

And why did Moderna need money but Pfizer didn't?

If it was the Dems that had been handing out cash-- the Republicans would be screaming about it.

But now it is some miraculous wonder cure.

Is there any president under similar circumstances who would not have agreed to create new debt, approved by Congress, to invest in trials or distribution of a vaccine?

That's OK even you smug Trump-haters will benefit from his leadership on this issue. Whether you admit it or not.
It never would have happened under Democrat leadership simply because it took streamlining the process to allow this to happen this quickly. Democrats always want more regulation, more red tape, more hoops to jump through, not less.

Pfizer took 1.95 billion dollars too. That's public knowledge.
