Elected leaders are in a tough spot. There is contradicting scientific studies on whether lockdowns work or not? Whether they spare damage or not. Even with masks.

No matter what a governor does, she or he will be criticized by half of their state who favor the opposing view and studies.

Governor Whitmer wants to save lives and reduce suffering and she believes the science that says mask, distancing, and lockdowns work. Most of the people who voted for her also want this position. Yet people call her a dictator.

Governor Noem wants to preserve freedom and thinks lockdowns cause more damage than they solve. She can point to scientific studies to back up her position. Most of the people who voted for her also want this position. Yet people call her a killer.

Instead of piling on with insults for whatever side you prefer, let us realize that these governors are in a tough position that will anger half the country no matter what they choose. Let us understand that there are so many unknowns and they have it tough.

All of the attacks and name calling just adds to the stress and amps up the anger in society.

I personally support masks in public, social distancing, and targeted lockdowns, but I see the good and sincerity in the other side. I pledge to not call the other side names in these tough situations and I hope you do too.
