Banks won't take Fort Hood shooting suspect's paychecks

Quote:
Small Type BELTON — As he sits in the Bell County Jail, accused of the Nov. 5 Fort Hood shooting that left 13 dead, Maj. Nidal Hasan continues to receive his monthly U.S. Army paycheck, which based on his rank and experience is probably more than $6,000.
That's standard procedure for soldiers who are confined before military trial, according to Army officials.

Army requires direct deposit, and he cant find a bank willing to accept him as a customer

Since when did banks show anything resembling integrity?

That should be the story here...

Exactly

"Galligan said Hasan has a car payment, legal fees and obligations to family members. According to the Department of Defense military pay table, a soldier at Hasan's pay grade earns more than $6,000 a month."

To bad it should go to the families he knew what he was
doing

I hate to say this, I really do, however:

As of yet, he has NOT been convicted of anything. Therefore, he is, under the law, innocent. Please understand, the US Constitution states you cannot take property, etc from persons without a due process of law. In this case, the due process of law is his trial. After the trial and, when he is found guilty, the money will be forfeited.

In so far as a bank goes, I'm actually quite shocked. I'm really surprised they even know who he is. You can open a bank account online.

I do agree with you...what's the holdup? Let's get on with the trial! Will it be a military or civilian trial?

And don't people occasionally get suspended without pay?

They probably don't want to handle the bad press or just being connected to someone like that.

That freakin' piece of scum.

If you're asking why the military doesn't start punishing someone until after they're found guilty then you don't have a clue about the constitution and I won't waste my time educating you.
