I thought it odd that Mississippi changed its flag to incorporation the Rebel flag. After all, Texas still waves the flag it founded in 1839.

The Mississippi flag, as it existed from 1861 to 1894, was quite nice, featuring a Magnolia tree. Look it up.

It used to be "you're destroying history". Now some of the pro-Lost Cause types are coming out and saying "you're destroying white history". Think about how desperate, or morally corrupt someone has to be. Someone who would try to say that is basically saying "preserving slavery and bigotry is part of white culture". To that, I would have to ask some people if that is what they want.

Taking down Confederate statues is not destroying history. It's recognizing that Confederate generals are not worthy of accolades and honor. Those statues were put up based on a dishonest ideology perpetuated by the UDC.
In what way is Theodore Roosevelt (whose statue was removed from the outside of the Museum of Natural History in New York a "confederate general"? And why are we warming up to erase or cancel Alexander Hamilton or Johns Hopkins? See From Alexander Hamilton to Johns Hopkins - The Demolition of Societies' Builders.

Coming on the heels of a bloody civil war, the US took a reconciliatory tone and that meant that showing some respect to BOTH sides was pretty critical to getting past such a terrible time.

I think that when we look back now with zero consideration of the brutal fighting and post-war environment is where we miss why it was even done in the first place.

I fear that the more you cover up history, the less informed future generations will be but I see why some people don't like them. (My relative died fighting against the south and is buried in TN, so I'm no fan of the confederates.)

I seem to be saying that a lot lately.

What property rights are being infringed on rules about state property?

The State can't own property. Only individuals can.

They were very much seditious traitors, as far as the British Crown was concerned. And yes, winning is generally how you go from usurpurous gallows fodder to being a nation's father. Exceptions to that rule are few and even they tend to be upheld at barrel's end.

Perhaps a monument that commemorates the suffering and inhumanity of slavery and slave trade?

Wrong.
The State owns its Capital building, all the various state offices it does not rent throughout the state, and other buildings, grounds, parks, and public spaces.

They were all obtained with the consent of the individual voter's representatives in state government.

Read the property titles to any state property. Your state is as much an entity as you are as an individual when it comes to property ownership.

This thread's headline is misleading, though. Selling a confederate flag is still legal in the state of New York. They just can't be sold in or on state property.
