The Religious Freedom Restoration Act’s wording is why the justices ruled the way they did, and this was about whether the men placed on the no-fly list had a right sue, not whether they would win or not. Thomas’s words indicate that the officers being sued could still use qualified immunity as a defense from paying money. However, if I were the Masterpiece Cake guy I’d be filing paperwork to sue the Colorado officials that hounded him first thing tomorrow morning. Qualified Immunity shields more than just cops and his case should fall under Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
The BIG takeaway that everyone ought to be getting out of this is that the Supreme Court is going the take the Judicial Branch out of the policy/law making business and hand it back to its rightful branch: Congress.

That would be TREMENDOUS if they would do that. For USSC, Appeals courts, and District courts.
I'm very much good with eliminating "qualified immunity" from mayors, governors and DAs that refuse to enforce the basic laws of a civil society, sacrifice the lives and property of law abiding citizens in order to pander to violent domestic terrorists that they share political ideals with, and that refuse to prosecute said violent domestic terrorists. Mayors and DAs in Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis and NYC should have been arrested and prosecuted long ago.
