What are you talking about? You think we are not working here in the northeast? Ha.

I read the other day that around 1 million dead people were sent a stimulus check also. WTH?
A lot of seniors are not so financially comfortable. The pandemic has hurt them economically even if they are not working, they may have to get groceries delivered or hire people to do things for them. Surely you know some seniors who are not so well off.

Everything can stimulate the economy.
If you save the check in a bank account, it's turning other bank money loose to circulate.
If you give it to charity, the charity moves the money around to others.
If you give it back to the Treasury, the money just made a full circle of circulation. Someone benefited while your check was in the middle of the process.

The only way the money will not stimulate the economy is if you put the check in a drawer and never take it out.
Even that may stimulate the economy, though, as eventually there will be someone who's put in charge of accounting for all the checks that were never cashed or deposited.
Once something shows you never did anything with the check, it's just a matter of adjusting the Treasury's numbers a little bit for the money you never spent.

The idea of giving the taxpayer direct relief in the form of money is one of the oldest conservative ideas there is. The entire notion depends of the belief that a good conservative person is a responsible person with money, and knows better than the government on where it's best to spend it.

That's why Republicans are always so keen on big tax breaks. Individual responsibility, not government wastefulness, in all fiscal matters.

Taking the money and using it wisely is conservative. Leaving it in the hands of government is liberal thought.
The philosophy that underlies both is the money has to move around to be worth anything.
Sitting in a depository, it's nothing but bales of paper.

Definitely not how it works. Of course when you pay off your debt it stimulates the economy. You actually didn’t stimulate it until you paid for what you bought. Good grief. Prior to actually paying your debt it was just artificial. Paying the vendor stimulates the economy. Until you actually do that you haven’t stimulated anything except your own ego by buying something you couldn’t afford.

Because paying more for something you don’t need is such a wise financial move. A prime example of why so many Americans find themselves in difficult financial situations.

70% of the economy is consumer spending and the simple fact is that if you give money to people they will most likely spend it, thus stimulating the largest sector of the economy. Sure, like me, some don't need it, but while I don't have to worry about my home and I know where my next meal is coming from, this pandemic has cost me close to -25% in my income.
So if I get a check, I will spend it on something because that's what its for.

Can someone explain why someone making close to what they made a year ago or better needs a government handout to survive?

I have been retired since 1999 and receive a company retirement, stock investments and SS...with all that I don't need another stimulus check. In fact the last check I received a donated to a local fund to help those who needed help.

But my biggest *bi*ch is not with the stimulus money going to American citizens who need it but moey to foreign countries to do things like building a wall (Jordon and Syria) and money to Pakistan for something called gender identity.
Biden and the democrats are totally against a wall along our southern border but think nothing about spending money for a wall blocking refugees going from Syria to Jordon....Insanity...

Economies thrive when people feel confident to spend money.

Confidence to spend money occurs when people know they have income coming in to replace
what they spent.

Secure economies occur when people have confidence to spend and save. To spend on
something they want now, at the same time can afford to save for something in the future.

Americans were doing that when banks paid a great interest rate. Banks owned the mortgages
they wrote, there was no packaging and selling going on like now. Banks required a large down
payment in order to approve a mortgage. Banks had more skin in the game.

The IRS had steady, dependable employed homeowners and stable U.S. based corporate base
paying income tax that was used by government to fund social and societal needs like mental
institutions and communal living homes for those who could not contribute to society due to
psychological or physical special needs.

Home ownership thrived when people had reliable employment. Employers took a "Cradle to Grave"
approach to employees, even employees who did not have a college degree. Meals in the cafeteria
were excellent quality, offered to employees at either free or reduced rate. Vacations were generous,
pensions were funded and CEO's did not hoard all the profits and stock for themselves. Then hostile
corporate takeovers started happening, and corporations were suddenly swallowed up by other
corporations who did not honor the terms and promises and pensions of the employees caught in
the limbo.

Then Citizens United happened. Lobbying morphed into what now amounts to legalized bribery.

Now we have a situation where public access to our internet has become an item that can be sold
to the highest bidder in order to profit and satisfy investors. Where I live, Suddenlink was a local
company that made high speed internet available to almost every location but the outlying remote
areas. The company ran like clockwork, created thriving jobs and had the most amazing local
based customer service. Then the owner/founder died. The company was sold to an entity that
based everything to contractors and 3rd world call centers. The investors got paid more, so that
was all that mattered. Now if you are a poor ****** who rents and moves every few years and
you need internet, Suddenlink is the only reliable service in many cases. But you have to
communicate with that third world call center. Third world call center says sure, we'll hook you
up. Then you get a bill, and it is so crazy expensive you have no idea why. There is nothing you
can do, because customer service as a base concept does not exist any longer. Meanwhile, you
are praying you can find a full time job that pays 15 dollars an hour because that would allow you
to pay your rent and your health insurance that your employer no longer pays for or offers. Your
employer either provides health insurance but pays a lower wage to offset because the insurance
company is fleecing your employer as well to make sure the insurance company CEO and their
investors are kept fat in cash and stocks like a Christmas goose.

Answer! SOCIALISM in America is ALIVE & WELL!! Keep voting DEMOCRAT, and there will be "FREE" stuff for All! INCLUDING MILLIONS MORE ILLEGAL ALIENS lining up at our border DEMANDING their RIGHTS!! Hard-working American taxpayers (including DEMOCRATS!) are AWESOME for being so inviting, kind, and generous! The rest of the world, especially Latin America, thanks you!! Your future president, Commalah Harris, ROCKS!! Not so sure about Sleepy Joe, however. Just sayin...

Or maybe you could spend that money on smokes, sex, gambling, lottery tickets, and drugs! People have needs and are free to make choices. Thus, regardless of how the money is spent, people will be helped.
