Not sure how the goal post is moving since the point of stay at home orders is to prevent the overwhelming of hospitals which is happening now in California.

Let's be honest, there is no enforcement. I have a friend in Canada who lives in Toronto and the police there will fine people thousands of dollars if they break any of the stay-at-home orders such as gatherings of more than four people.

In California, there's absolutely no enforcement and in fact, there is even refusal to enforce the law by local law enforcement.

This should prove that lockdowns & restrictions aren't effective, unless some people think dictatorship government, destroying the economy, and ruining everybody's way of life are accomplishments.

I can't help but wonder if weather conditions are a contributing factor. Southern CA has been excessively dry lately, which can actually help spread viruses at a faster rate. On top of this, dry weather tends to worsen air quality, which can be hard on people with certain underlying medical issues.

No, California is NOT the worst state in the country for spreading the virus. Not even close.

COVID CASES PER 1 MILLION PEOPLE
(source: Worldometer)

Rank ... State ... Cases

1 ... North Dakota ... 119,879
2 ... South Dakota ... 109,605
3 ... Iowa ........... 86,973

..... USA Average .... 58,712

34 .. California ..... 53,766

Even if you isolate Los Angeles County, with 706,448 cases out of a population of 10.04 million, the case rate works out to 70,363 per million. This does not crack the top 10.

Note that midwestern conservative states, with the most lax covid policies, have been the most infectious. 9 out of the top 10 states for infection rates are all conservative red states, the only exception is Rhode Island at No. 8. The fact that being lax on mask rules and closing bars allows the virus to fester is no surprise to anyone who has taken middle school biology.

Ohio is under lockdowns and mask mandates.
Looks like that went right over your head. By discounting LA, you can see the impact that LA has on California's numbers and how the rest of California is doing.

Let's hope Ohio can recover soon.

Thank goodness because this isn't China (at least not yet).

Not sure where you got China from when I used Canada as an example

And what's wrong with enforcement? If we had any actual enforcement maybe we could prevent hospitals from getting even worse from where they are at right now, and things are really bad as it is.

I find it funny that many sheriffs are refusing to enforce these orders. I wonder if they'll have the same mindset if God forbid something happens to one of their deputies and can't get the care they need because healthcare is being rationed in ER's and the doctor's determined that the deputy doesn't have a good chance of surviving based on what's available to the hospital system.

Anecdotal evidence from people I know who work in hospitals in CA says ambulances are waiting for hours to offload patients at ER's due to LACK OF CAPACITY.

But hey, don't just take my word for it:

Really?

Then why is a hospital in LA using its gift store and lobby to treat people?
