iM an agnostic. I dont vote based upon religion nor is someone's faith a deciding factor. That is as long as they aren't extreme in their practice or beliefs. I have met some fairly militant atheists that flip out at the drop of a hat when it comes to christians.

Don't want an abortion? Don't have one.

Want a prayer in public (something the bible admonishes you not to do), say it silently but don't force those of other faiths or no faith to have to listen to the incantation.

Don't put your religious symbols in publicly funded places, and then actively resist when people start complaining.

Don't force YOUR belief on the general public. Keep them in your head, your house and place of worship.

Leave the rest of us alone, and you won't get any backfire.

Part of it is history. 100 years ago, the Communists in Russia declared themselves officially atheistic, and started persecuting religious people and violating human rights in general. That really hurt the image of atheists in the US, with its First Amendment. Also, even outside of human rights / totalitarianism issues, people irrationally link atheism with immorality.
I’ve always said government should be made up of atheists. Religion has no place when it comes to law & governing.

Because people are afraid of what they don't understand.

God doesn't want them in elected office. Preference for god fearing hate and fear mongering socialist democrats.

alternatively, the OP question is invalid and there hasn't been a candidate competitive or qualified enough to win.

Why heck, voters politicians question anyone who is Catholic.

Atheist activists do their best to destroy the culture for everyone else.

Atheists could care less if other people worship God.

Distinction must be made between atheists and atheist activists. Too may pretenders trying to sell themselves as representing all in their select demographic.

An atheist can not be trusted to fairly make decisions involving matters of faith and religion without injecting their bias especially against Christians. I would never vote for an atheist.

I wonder why the religious beliefs - or lack thereof - of any prospective legislator is pertinent information at all.

That Trump is a hypocrite? Oh, I get it, all right.

It is generally not socially acceptable to be an atheist. Even given the freedom of choice when discovering religious practices, people study various religions. No one is encouraged to look into agnostic or atheism. Some who embrace it when they make comments on not believing the comments are dismissed like you’re kidding. Lots of non believers out there just not talking about it. Most non believers could care less what others believe and have no desire to change others view. We want freedom of religion and freedom from religion in government and public spaces.

Bs. Just like a judge or a jury member you leave your personal bias at the door. Can an atheist trust a religious Person to not interject their bias.

Good question....Maybe we should make it a rule that they all be atheists that way we won't be saddened when we find out they are lying, cheating balls of fermenting hog crap......
