One of the prime problems with section 230. It should apply to Twitter like any other publisher(which Twitter is, no matter how much they try to deny it).
If section 230 were removed, Trump would have had to have been banned long ago for lying and violent speech. That would make Twitter liable and responsible legally for his speech.
And removing 230 would make City-Data responsible for a lot of the stupidity on here. City-Data would likely just nuke the entire political forum. Too much trouble and no profit. Trump has no idea what 230 does.
Playings devils advocate, where did Trump or incite or say "Get violent people!!" Obviously he probably wants it but where did he specifically say it? My problem is, this can open a pandora's box of just banning all speech that people don't agree with.
These rioters/protests are GROWN ADULTS. They should know right from wrong by the time they are 40.
i don't disagree but this is a private platform so they can do as they please.
The 1st Amendment doesn't even apply to Twitter. Private company that can police their platform as they see fit.
People get very confused over what the 1st Amendment is and isn't. It protects you from the government stopping your legal speech, it does not protect lies, it does not protect creating riots, it does not protect you from consequences of your speech from companies or other individuals.
It certainly does not mean that others have to listen to you and take your QAnon crap seriously. And lastly, it doesn't keep others from mocking your stupid, off the wall nuts speech.
Yes, not I recognize that - the Bill of Rights has to do what the government is not permitted to restrict. I was rolling too many things together....the same speech that prompted Twitter to ban Trump is the sme speech that has the DC DA trying to detrmine whether Trump can face charges. And I'm also thinking of the posters here who keep saying he never expressly told anyone specifically to storm the Capitol.
