Yes, that one is supposedly more worrisome (the South African variant). It has mutated enough to make the vaccine much less effective. I was watching a briefing on it this morning and they said that the mutation in the South African one was in a area of the spike that does evade the vaccine for *some* of the antibodies. So a 95% efficient vaccine might drop down to 70% efficient. It also makes the Regeneron monoclonal antibodies useless as a treatment.
Fortunately, this is not the case with the UK variant discussed in the link from the OP.
What I thought was interesting is that it was said that some of these mutations occurred in people who contracted the regular COVID virus, had autoimmune disorders that slowed down their recovery and they "held" the virus in the body for so long that it was able to mutate and then pass on that way. Which is why it's all the more important to get people like this vaccinated.
