This is a deception most likely, to discredit the guy and the 'proud boys', a way to make them turn against themselves, this tactic has been used in the past by our Govt
...and it couldn't have happened to a "nicer" bunch of all-American boys.
Sad history of federal law enforcement having undercover or on going operations against active groups. One of the most infamous was the FBI who had the first World Trade Bombers in 1993 under surveillance/ investigation and the attack still happened.
For those who can't or won't read the story, it never says he informed law enforcement regarding the proud boys. It also doesn't say he was planted in the proud boys by government officials. In 2012, he temporarily ratted out other criminals in order to get a reduced punishment. This is pretty common for criminals, it's a far cry from being an undercover FBI agent.
People who follow social movements such as hate groups have known that they were a "Western chauvinst" group for years, a term that does not preclude people of any race, even if it does attract mostly White Nationalists and Supremacists.
That is one of the sad realizations from the debates when the Proud Boys were brought up as a "White Supremacist" group. Everyone on that stage, including the moderator, by virtue of their positions and responsibilities, should have been aware of what the Proud Boys are just as they should be aware of the difference between Antifa and Anarchists which also have overlap, but are not one and the same.
Actually the moderator asked Trump if he would condemn white supremacists AND militia groups. Trump asked for a name - “ Who would you like me to condemn?” Biden replied Proud Boys, a hate group.
And Trump told the Proud Boys to “ Stand Back and stand by”.
Proud Boys appreciated it and celebrated.
The entire moment looked like 2 old guys arguing at McDonalds.
Trump likely had no clue about Proud Boys and did not know or perhaps did not remember there is a diff between stand by and stand down.
Did they really want attacks to not happen ? Attacks seem like a good pretext for ushering in the surveillance state.
Wether it's a drug or terrorist kingpin some of these prosecutor types have dreams of a press conference in which they announce the arrest of a big gang, ring. organization etc complete with bulletin boards of pictures & flow charts along with some physical evidence on a table in front of them. And agents at their side. They want a photo op.
That being said they probably did they let an investigation, undercover operation run longer than it should have just to pile on the charges. High profile arrests and trials are career makers, can't interfere with that now can we.
It is pretty funny that the leader of the white supremacists lefties are so afraid of is actually a black, Latino government agent.
