The optics are very bad but he knows they’re going to vote for him anyway, why not go to Cancun? When everybody defrosts, the ones that are still alive are going to vote for him. With that kind base, I’d go too.

The major difference is that Newsom and Whitmer are governors. Cruz is a Senator. His job is not to stay in Texas and govern.

If Newsom left California during a wildfire to secure aid from some other state or the federal level, that is one thing. If he decided "this is a great time to take a two week vacation in Tahiti" that would be something else.

Sometimes it just a matter of perception. During the early months of coronavirus, my Senator showed up at the State Capitol for press conferences with the Governor. It was mostly a dog and pony show but some if it was a display of "here is the federal government working with the state government."

One would like to believe that the Senator was working with the Governor to coordinate aid. And if not the Senator directly with the Governor, it would be their aides doing it. But still. It is something. Better than the perception of bailing.

A lot of Texans without power have likely left town to get away from it. I say so what.
If I lost my power during winter here in Tennessee I would be headed somewhere else too if I could.

He ended one of his tweets about the storm with with "Stay Safe!", then hopped on a plane to Cancun, lol.

Doesn't really matter where he is but this looks bad enough for the other side to exploit. It's fake outrage but the right would have the same fake outrage if this were a Senator from the democrats.

Default Cruz flees Texas during power crisis to Cancun

Said he can't do anything and he likes Mexico!

I have always said: "If an elected official does not help during a crisis, that official is not needed at all!"

Quote:
Sen. Ted Cruz flew to Cancun, Mexico, with his family this week as Texas dealt with a winter storm that as of Thursday still has left 500,000 without power, Fox News has confirmed.

And if a Democrat did this the Right would of already posted 20 threads on the topic.

But guess since Republicans have abdicated their duty in Texas and blamed the crises on AOC and the Democrats they can now get some rnr.
