Senator Paul was explaining what HE thought the science was. There's a difference. Senator Paul would be wrong. Fauci explained about the variants and how this is a fluid situation. If Senator Paul had shut up for one second, maybe he would have heard that explanation.
Explained about a made up variant that doesn't exist. If you had listened for a second maybe you would have understood what was said.
I have said this literally about 100 times over the last year... masks are to protect others from the mask-wearing person who is infected with covid. Rand Paul is correct in that a person who has immunity to covid is likely not going to be infected again any time soon. That does not mean that person with immunity cannot be a carrier of the virus. If that person who has immunity is wearing a mask, it is so he does not spread the virus he might be carrying. It is not for his own protection.
When there are a limited number of infections, then we can all take off our masks everywhere we go and can dismiss "social distancing". It is a guessing game what constitutes a "limited number of infections".
Based on all that we know about the science of immunity, there is no basis for thinking that a person who is immune as a result of having had the virus, or from being "vaccinated," will be able to infect anyone else.
Senator Paul questioned Fauci during the interview presented in the OP about this very question. He asked Fauci if he had any scientific basis for believing that such people were a risk to spread the virus. Fauci had no such scientific evidence and clearly did not believe that was a concern.

They can't answer the question because they have zero evidence to back up their claims. All they can do is guess. We are all wearing masks based on their guesses. The fact is as more American's get the vaccine they will have no choice but to lift the mask mandates.
