Biden Effort to Combat Hunger Marks ‘a Profound Change’
As millions of Americans lack enough to eat, the administration is rapidly increasing aid — with an eye toward a permanent safety net expansion.
WASHINGTON — With more than one in 10 households reporting that they lack enough to eat, the Biden administration is accelerating a vast campaign of hunger relief that will temporarily increase assistance by tens of billions of dollars and set the stage for what officials envision as lasting expansions of aid.
Tens of billions in government aid for more food -- just what Americans need!
Apparently one in ten DOES need this. The lines for our food pantries are sometimes wrapped around the block. It's very sad, and I am thankful every single day for our bursting refrigerator, freezer, and pantry and our ability to buy whatever food we want and need. Not everyone is so fortunate.
I have a hard time believing, as fat as Americans are, that we can't feed everyone. I've been on food stamps, we've gotten WIC, and we've taken food from food pantries. And through it all, I've never gone hungry.
Just last week I helped a couple get food from the local food pantry. They needed some food to tide them over till payday and I put them in touch with my pastor, who was able to get into the food pantry to get a few boxes for them.
The point? There are means by which people can get food.
Are you saying the government should let the people just starve?
Hold the elevator, Marie-Antoinette, someone else wants to go down.
No, they are saying we shouldn’t allow more people in who will need to be fed when we already have 10% of the people already here who don’t have enough to eat. We are doing the national equivalent of being crazy cat ladies, who keep collecting cats when they can’t take care of the ones they have, so all the cats end up mangy, neglected, diseased, and malnourished. Eventually some will resort to feral behavior to survive and others will literally die because of the lack of resources.
