I keep saying it, the movie, Demolition Man, wasn't made for entertainment. It was a warning.
To think, it's going be, either get a vaccine by one of the big pharmas, or you can't go into the store to buy groceries. This isn't like having to wear clothes and shoes, where you can get them anywhere or even make them yourself. This is about forcing people to get a shot where only less than a handful of companies have.
Sometimes Maher gets it, and makes sense, like he mostly did here.
Other times Maher repeats stale old rumors and lies which have already been debunked and beaten mercilessly like a dead horse. It was Nancy Pelosi who claimed Trump said we should inject Lysol into our lungs, and the lying news media picked it up and claimed Trump said we should inject bleach.
Maher also likes to make sweeping partisan comments without offering a shred of evidence to back them up. Why? Because he clings to stale old rumors and lies that he read somewhere, and because "Republicans bad," is just the way he is wired.
Maher isn't stupid. He is starting to see the light that the far left liberals have no problems giving up their freedoms of health for a BS virus that was blown way out of proportion, but he also has to keep his job so has to sprinkle enough anti Trump crap to keep the powers that be happy.
But kudos to him for putting DeSantis in good light. Maybe he secretly would love him to run and win President in 24.
Responsible people realize that the world is suffering the most deadly pandemic since 1918. While progress is being made, it is not over by a long shot. A daughter of my cousin (the daughter is early 30s in good health) was hospitalized two days ago for Covid 19, with pretty severe pneumonia and other symptoms. We are rejoicing that she was removed from the emergency room to the ICU, with a good prognosis.
Yet, what is her long term prospects? Unknown. That is the problem with dealing with a 'novel' virus.
As of today (per John Hopkins) 581,061 Americans have died due to the virus. To this day, we do not know what the ramification will be for survivors.
Many, no doubt, will recover fully. Yet, I suspect that a significant number will have life-long health problems, possibly resulting in an inability to return to any type of work, and requiring Federal disability (which, on average, from my time with Social Security, added up to around $300,000 per claimant, including Medicare or Medicaid costs).
I realize that not being able to go to your favorite bar or such is maddening. It is a shame that the virus has been allowed to get this entrenched, not only here, but around the world. At first, the health professionals urged people to make their own face coverings, given the appalling lack of masks for those on the front line. That shortage is now over.
Yet, in too many countries, you have people that feel that putting a piece of cloth over their face hampers their rights. Study after study shows that wearing a mask will markedly reduce transmission of his respiratory virus.
Yet, in some countries, politicians have made this a political issue. President Trump was not the only world leader to refuse to wear a mask. People looked to his example, and so the virus marches on.
As I said before, we have far too many herein that like to call themselves "Christian", and bemoan how we are 'no longer a Christian nation'.
Yet, Jesus said "Do onto others as your would have them do to you". I doubt that Jesus would have refused, radical liberal that he was, to wear a mask if it may keep his neighbor from becoming sick.
Freedom is a relative term. We all have freedoms (women obviously less than men), but it becomes ridiculous when a person proclaims that they have the right, during a pandemic, to spread the virus (unknowingly, mainly, although you have some that are sneezing and coughing on people on purpose).
Those that refuse to wear a mask, are cowards. They obviously feel helpless and a loss of control over their day to day life. By refusing to wear a mask, they evidently feel more empowered. Yet it is a sham. They are causing restrictions to be reimposed.
Same with the vaccine: early on, we had posters that proclaimed that the only way was to allow the virus to run its course until we reached 'herd immunity', although experts said that such would result in several millions of deaths.
Now: we have a vaccine which will allow us to reach 'herd immunity' much, much quicker, and with much less loss of life.

I think he knows better but he feels his audience won’t listen unless he throws in some derogatory remarks about Trump and his supporters.

Their response? I will not take the vaccine.
It is idiocy. It is stupid. It is Conservative.
You do know that many conservatives wear masks and have received the vaccine or are willing to? And that many liberals are refusing the vaccines and going maskless?
