This freedom you speak of...might it have anything to do with collecting a check for not working?
Why would anyone take a job that pays $10-$15/hr when they can sit home, get 40+ hours of freedom and get paid $4-600?
Now don't get me wrong, when the GOVERNMENT mandated that businesses be shut, it's up to the GOVERNMENT to take care of the people. But lockdowns are long past justified, and by extension extended and supplemental UI should no longer be needed.
Oh, I definitely get what you are saying but the $600 checks (overkill I agree) stopped months ago. Even the $300 ended in my state.
Quite a few of the restaurant jobs were second jobs anyway. Some of those people are belt tightening so they don't need one. Lots of full time low pay jobs were held by low income women who now enjoy staying home with their kids. Just anecdotal, but I know a few of those women whose boyfriends/husbands work construction and due to the boom in that area and higher pay they are choosing not to work or work less.
I live in a community dependent on hospitality and restaurants. There have been concerns about a shortage of employees for years now (google search -- earliest article is 2014...and updates almost yearly after that).
Today --- sure lots of complaints about not enough staff and new restaurants opening and hotels being opened, built, etc.
The rhetoric is not matching the reality.
And if a Buffalo Wild Wing closing is the end of America, America was built on shaky ground.
I think any nation that would allow or sanction 30-50 million illegal, low-IQ invaders to flood in would suffer tremendous ramifications, and America is no different.

Yeah, I think we're at the tail end of that as much as the more socialist left would like to keep extending them indefinitely as some form of UBI. Even if there's any political will to extend past September, which I doubt, a lot of states are just going to cut them off. Personally, I think September 4 is way already too long. Maybe June 30th to be extra cautious in case there's some sudden resurgence in caseloads with things reopening. That doesn't seem that likely but possible. Even if there's a fourth wave at this point it probably won't be that dramatic of one.

So your area is the only area in the country that has the same shortage since 2014 as there is now?
Well if everyone already "bettered themselves?"how do you propose to get people to willing spend time to put your French fries in a bag?
I say by paying them more.
Folks are already being offered more pay. They think they’re entitled to even more without bettering themselves.
When the free stuff runs out folks will be putting French fries in the bag again.

Hurts to be better but still can't afford to pay your lesser don't it.
Those not bettering themselves to make more money have only themselves to blame. Want more money, earn it. It’s that simple.
