Complete disdain for the industrious small business owner. There are 30 million small businesses in this country. Even if 90% of them manage to survive being forced to pay above market rate, that still means millions of people will lose their jobs.

Of course, as a liberal, you’d prefer to see lower-paid employees on welfare and unending UE.

Rent on the barn paid off his parents' mortgage and has funded their retirement.

Long before it became politically favorable to pay a living wage, he insisted that he do so for his employees. That meant working 100+ hour weeks until he could afford to pay a staff, offer paid time off, and cover their insurance.

And it's been successful. As a result, he has loyal employees and has begun training up some of the longer-term employees to take on more responsibility. He doesn't sit around crying about how he can't find people to work for him at the wages he offers. He took it to heart early on that "If you don't like what your job pays, find another one." Unlike some business owners, he actually applied that to his own business plan.

We've all been told that if you don't like minimum wage or minimum wage-adjacent to get a new job. Why on earth would you cry if people did just that?
Exactly right! You will hear these people ranting and raving how employees should work harder get more skills but never anything to a business owner especially one who owns a struggling business about working harder or being better. Seems they think business owners have little responsibility to their employees and society just pretty much let them do what they want.
