Social media companies would be unable to permanently kick people off their platforms under a tough new Florida law.

The bill, passed by the GOP-dominated state Legislature Thursday and awaiting Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signature, would make it a crime to remove state political candidates from Twitter and Facebook, and would mete out penalties of $250,000 a day for any statewide candidate who is deplatformed.

This is needed in every state and nation. Many foreign nations have already warned the Silicon Valley companies against doing in their countries what they did in the last election in the USA and have enacted laws preventing it.

Such an odd stance for "small government" Republicans.

I guess the party really has changed.

Well that’s better, yeah I hadn’t noticed that. OP’s first paragraph just says “people” can’t be kicked off. Political candidates are generally afforded more free speech protection, that’s why Twitter put up with Trump until he started inciting violence.

They have rightfully changed. Things are changing very rapidly. Big tech business has cozied up to the government via democrats, and is a threat to democracy. There would have been a day when Democrats would have been screaming at the top of their lungs about this cozy of a relationship between business and the government. Not anymore. The parties are changing.

When our friends on the left are in power, they'll seek to establish permanent one party rule and seek to attack or imprison their political rivals because that is according to their values.

When more liberty minded people are in power, they'll seek to protect the rights and liberties of everyone because that is according to their values.

That's not what this would do. Preventing people from being banned from the public square does not restrict free assembly, it protects it.

Next best move since congress won’t act on dismantling these monopolies. Good for him.
