Some people try to come up with a self-congratulatory definition, as though their "woke-ness" were a good thing.... such as:

Being "woke" means either
(a) believing the nonsense that racists have spouted for a few years now about blacks being chronically oppressed by anything white, and that conservatives are chronically mistaken about the bad effects pushed by liberals - so much so that none of those notions need proof but must be blindly accepted without question.

(b) Being so afraid of the "woke" mob that you are willing to cower and yield to them, mouthing agreements with their hate and lies even though you're not really sure.
The definition the wishful-thinking post above tried to foist, is the one made up by far-left bullies and dictators who can't justify the fear and hate they feel, so they make up a lie to pretend it's something good instead of the plainly bad and destructive impulse it clearly is.
It means being a cultural Marxist who believes non-Whites, women, and the LGBTQ are perpetual victims who are "oppressed" by straight White males with zero evidence to back it up and they will fight tooth and nail to create policies or movements to "right the wrongs"(that are mostly outdated and don't exist anymore).
That's basically it and it's a severe blight in the Democrat Party to the extent that even moderate liberals generally can't stand it.
It 'should' be something positive. Like you are aware,..you are empathetic, knowledgably about the world.
But that's a typical lefty thing.
Take a word or phrase that , on it's surface, sounds positive, and no sane person would disagree.
Then pile in a load of political agenda garbage into it and if you criticize it or try to call it out for what it is, then you are a -insert oppressor title here--
Woke,...what? you aren't Woke? you must be asleep,..sheep!
Progressive,...what? you are against progress??
BLM,...what? you want blacks to die?!
Green New Deal,..what? you want the planet to burn?!
Dreamers,....what? You hate children!

Ignoring the fact that most people are not against the 'concept',..just the fine print( usually involving some " "socialist" commie ideals apparently) . But the argument usually never lasts long enough to get there.
woke means you are at least trying to comprehend our world....the right has their own version with Qanon, by the way make any headway finding the baby raping Cabal? which side is goofier? your choice
