I agree... there's no particular reason to vaccinate children under age 18 unless they really want to get the vaccine. Older people can choose not to vaccinate and that's on them, but this virus really doesn't harm children. Nonetheless they will push it for the entire population. That said, I don't personally think the vaccine is they boogeyman the anti-vaccers think, so the point is moot. Get it or not.
I really haven't dug deeply into these issues of vaccines and autism in young kids though, so I don't claim to be an expert.
But those children can still get and transmit the disease. They just don't get very sick with it.

Preliminary evidence seems to suggest the COVID-19 vaccines make it less likely someone who’s vaccinated will transmit the coronavirus
Is that not what it is about?

As someone who is on the autism spectrum, I'm pretty certain vaccines have nothing to do with it. I was already on the spectrum before vaccines were administered to me and I got it from my mother who was never vaccinated. Just saying.

Kids get it far less, get far less sick when they do get it and spread it far less than adults.

On the contrary more than 2 million children have been diagnosed with COVID-19. Children make up about 12.4% of the total cases in the U.S. At least 172 children had died as of Dec. 17. About 1.8% of all COVID-19 hospitalizations and 0.07% of the deaths have been among children.

So you're saying that the death rate for children is something lower than 0.0086% (your source was as of December 2020, so it's quite out of date). I know that 0.0086% is not zero, but even if we vaccinate the entire population with no exceptions, we're not going to get a death rate of zero.
You will never see much coverage on these either

Given the presence of the Gamma variant in the United States — about 7 percent of Covid-19 cases in the United States can be attributed to this variant — it’s possible that pediatric and newborn Covid-19 cases could soon become more prevalent. This is cause for serious concern.
Why are so many young children in Brazil being hospitalized with and dying from Covid-19? Identifying the answer is critical not just to the health of children in South America; it’s also vital to understanding what path the coronavirus pandemic may take in the future.
Get serious...Covid is not just one virus, it's a beast that is mutating faster than it can be controlled
