Well it was a fun experiment while it lasted but hey NYC how is that defunding the Police going?

Gun crimes are up in NYC and the Mayor is bringing in the ATF to work with and "deputize" Police officers so they will be able to work as Federal agents.

" The "federal agent privileges" offered to NYPD working within the ATF's gun-tracing team will include giving the NYPD the ability to operate in areas that local police may not typically have jurisdiction, according to John DeVito, special agent in charge of the ATF's New York Field Division.
Miller added that the NYPD officers working with the ATF won't "become federal agents," and will remain NYPD officers, but the federal privileges offered to them will include the power to investigate federal gun violations and potentially put together cases they can bring to federal court, instead of just sticking to local, municipal matters."

Sooo If I understand this the ATF and "deputized" NYCP will trace and track legal guns because how can they trace illegal ones that criminals use? Which means that law abiding gun owners will no doubt face tougher restrictions. Should we also be concerned that the Feds are taking over a states jurisdiction when it comes to guns and gun Rights of citizens?

Another issue, the elephant in the room that everyone is ignoring is that the uptick in gun violence is not so much about the gun but more about the criminal that is willingly pulling that trigger and spraying bullets. Why aren't the talking about removing the criminals from the streets?

Of course it is tragic when an innocent person loses their life over some gang land beef but the problem lies in those gang members and not so much the tools they use.

Of course removing illegally owned guns from the hands of criminals that would use them is a terrific concept but lets also remove the criminal.

If only the Mayor of NYC would work with ICE as closely as he wants to work with the ATF.

We used to have the NYPD Anti-Crime unit doing stop-and-frisk, it worked very well...but alas...it turned out to be “racist.”

Yep, stop and frisk works and can be a big contributing factor to keeping crime down overall and especially out of the business and tourists districts of NY City.

Hey wait a second, didn't the NYPD use to have a gang taskforce and a guns taskforce?

That's right DeBlasio got rid of those because they had a lot of minority shootings.

Why couldn't they be like the parking ticket taskforce, they have a lot less shootings when working with violators?

This will go nowhere.

One of the mayoral candidates, Eric Adams, wants to bring back the policing policies of David Dinkins. NOT Giuliani, who made NYC habitable for families, but Dinkins. The other candidates are even worse than Adams when it comes to crime.

They won't clean up crime until they admit crime is bad, and grow enough of a backbone to put an end to it. It's that simple. They don't need the feds (unless as part of a gang task force).

Meanwhile, my home value is directly connected to the rat-infested sinking ship that is NYC.

Stop and frisk is a severe violation of civil rights. People cannot just be stopped randomly and searched. People are for stop and frisk until they're the ones stopped and frisked.

Stop and Frisk still exists in NYC. However they have made it so counterproductive that it is hardly used anymore. No cop is going to lose 30 days vacation because they stopped the wrong person. So you can get the ATF in all you want. Unless the cops are doing stops it is completely useless. This is just a pr stunt that will not help a dam thing. DeBlassio has destroyed NY. It is intentional too!
