I move around pretty frequently since I grew up a military brat that moved every 3-4 years and it’s in my blood.

Moving from a very blue state, WA, to a red one, OH, in a couple weeks. The tax burden in Ohio is so much higher it eats up any savings on the housing cost. So it’s effectively a wash for us. Not looking forward to having a state and city income tax again. But that isn’t why we are moving.

Though generally people that are leaving the blue states are doing so because they’ve been priced out. Which isn’t a reflection of leftist voting policies, but rather runaway successful capitalism which has driven up the supply/demand curve.

Why is that? Because the weather in Oklahoma City and Wichita is too nightmarishly bad year around? For instance, Oklahoma City is now under a flood watch.

This is a valid point. There are also a lot of people who want the worker protections/salaries/education systems associate with those 'lib' states but have every intention of moving somewhere cheaper at retirement. You even see this happening in the large southern cities at this point- make the $, use the services, sell your house to bank all the appreciation and move somewhere cheaper/slower.

My mother was originally from Boston and always thought she would move back if something happened to my father (who was basically 20 years older and form the cigarettes and bourbon generation.) She went back to visit a sick uncle and my sister in college during at spring break for her school district. It snowed. She said that pretty much made her realize she would be able to reacclimate after 30 years away.

That is one of the 2 big reasons that the future of the Republican party is less promising. The people moving from the Democratic states tend to be Democrats where they move to. Prime examples are places like Georgia, Wisconsin, Colorado and New Mexico that are now much more friendly to the Democrats than they used to be. This plus the demographics of the baby boomers beginning to die off doesn't bode well for the future of conservativism or the Republican Party if they don't moderate their stands. Especially on social issues.
