Yea sure, good luck with that one WHO.

Quote:
The World Health Organization on Friday said that people should continue to wear face masks and take other measures meant to curb the spread of COVID-19, raising concerns about the quickly spreading Delta variant of COVID-19.

"People cannot feel safe just because they had the two doses. They still need to protect themselves," said Dr. Mariangela Simao, the assistant director-general for access to medicines and health products at the WHO, CNBC reported.

"Vaccine alone won't stop community transmission," she added. "People need to continue to use masks consistently, be in ventilated spaces, hand hygiene ... the physical distance, avoid crowding. This still continues to be extremely important, even if you're vaccinated when you have a community transmission ongoing."

Well WHO can take their "wear a mask" and <fill in the blank>.

All of a sudden these vaccines don't work ????

Sorry, I took my life back 28 days after I got my J&J shot.

Oh nooo, I thought vaccine meant freedom and back to normal life. And special treatment like not having to wear a mask, which should just apply to those nasty anti-vaxxers.

Haha. I am never wearing a mask again, ever. If that means I don't get to go places, so be it. I'm DONE.

So the WHO is basically admitting that vaccines don't work?

I took the shot so I'd not have to wear a mask - and the CDC backed me up when they changed the mask guidance on May 13th. That was a very happy day for me - they finally did something that made sense.

Now, if the CDC went along with WHO and says wear masks again, regardless of vax status, then we're gonna have a HUGE problem on our hands. The antivaxxers would have a field day. Hardly anyone will bother getting a shot - why bother if they don't work? And anti-maskers like me will refuse to wear them again.

I seriously doubt we'll see anything change here in the US - not if they want more people to get their shots.

The moment the vaccine became available to all who wanted it should have been the end. We need to stop going along with this and stand up against anymore restrictions.

If you want more people to be vaccinated, at minimum you should reward them. Not masking up is an obvious reward.

Beyond that, how many fully vaccinated people have caught a variant and had an extremely severe reaction? How many have died. As far as I know, zero. So what's the point in prolonging the insanity??

It seems there is no end of those who tout "just to be safe" measures, with no real science basis or verifiable research. It appears to be more about 15-minutes of fame or presumed 'expertise' ... than any real research.

Either the COVID vaccine now taken by more than half the U.S. -- is safe and effective, or not! Yet, here we are with hospitals/clinics still requiring masks -- and servers in many restaurants wearing them (OR indoor dining still prohibited in many restaurants) ... and many self-proclaimed 'experts' still recommending masks ... in any number of environments/situations .... 'just because they can'.

Of course, there may always be a problem with identifying those carriers who refuse vaccination, but I'm not sure requiring masks for everyone is more than a knee-jerk reaction or answer to anything.

It sounds like the WHO is signalling the concern that vaccinated people can still transmit covid with asymptomatic infections - and that risk is increased when covid is freely circulating in a community. There's not a great deal of science to support that position at this time but as they say "out of an abundance of caution". Out of an abundance of caution (I don't want even a mild case and there are other nasties that are out there) I am wearing a mask when indoors in crowded places like Walmart. But it is now a ventilated N95 mask that protects me and not others. Personally, I don't care if I do infect some unvaccinated person. That is on them in the US at least.
