Sheesh, just when you thought you had enough of football and basketball players acting like fools during the national anthem, now you have Olympic qualifying athletes starting to do the same. And she thinks it was a set up.
For the past week, the national anthem has played one time per evening at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials. On Saturday, the song happened to start while outspoken activist Gwen Berry was standing on the podium after receiving her bronze medal in the hammer throw.
While the music played, Berry placed her left hand on her hip and fidgeted. She took a quarter turn, so she was facing the stands, not the flag. Toward the end, she plucked up her black T-shirt with the words "Activist Athlete" emblazoned on the front, and draped it over her head.
"I feel like it was a setup, and they did it on purpose,'' Berry said of the timing of the anthem. "I was pissed, to be honest.''

They replicated this association in a follow-up study. This time they used a different, more robust, dark triad scale. They then found a stronger correlation between the dark triad traits and victim signaling (r = .52).
The researchers also found that victim signaling negatively correlated (r = -.38) with Honesty-Humility. This is a personality measure of sincerity, fairness, greed avoidance, and modesty. This suggests that victim signalers may be greedier and less honest than those who do not signal victimhood.
Beyond measuring responses to questionnaires, they also had participants play a game. Basically, it was a coin flip game in which participants could win money if they won.
Researchers rigged the game so that participants could easily cheat. Participants could claim they won even if they didn’t, and thus obtain more money.
Victim signalers were more likely to cheat in this game. The researchers again found that these results held after controlling for ethnicity, gender, income, and other factors.
Today, those with dark triad traits might find that the best way to extract rewards is by making a public spectacle of their victimhood and virtue.
If you're ashamed of or hate this country, it's flag or its anthem then don't represent it and don't benefit from it in any way or even live in it...there are other countries...find your place and go!
Deanna Price and Brooke Anderson are an inspiration for all Americans.
They are true winners and proud of it.
If one chooses to turn the attention of one's moment of accomplishment
to the one's failure, using a political cause as an excuse is not the way to do it.
You came in third place .You lost. Suck it up. Stop acting like a sore loser.
On turning your back to the American Flag?
I would stop and ask this simple question.
What country's flag do you wish to represent?
When you have made your decision apply to
that country for citizenship.

Might be time to stop all this podium nonsense in sport, just send them a certificate, a medal/trinket and some gift vouchers in the post.
Nobody even knows what sex they are any more, and to be honest the public are losing interest, so perhaps it's time to just call it a day, and not even bother congratulating these idiots in any meaningful way.
So the "set up" was that she wasn't properly prepared to protest the anthem. Poor baby.
