Governor Ivey of Alabama has had it with the anti-vaxxers and vaccine-hesitant. She is calling for people to start blaming those who are vaccine-eligible without contraindications, and who still choose to ignore science and public health by rejecting the vaccine.
But the remarks from the governor grew more pointed when she was pressed on what it would take to get greater numbers of Alabamans vaccinated.
“I don’t know. You tell me,” Ivey said. “Folks [are] supposed to have common sense. But it’s time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks, not the regular folks. It’s the unvaccinated folks that are letting us down.”
I disagree with Ivey about 90% of the time politically but give her a lot of props for trying her best to contain the pandemic despite the stupidity of rank and file Alabamans.
Since it's mostly the unvaccinated who are dying she's basically saying they should be blaming themselves. Fine then. I mean, people literally choose to kill themselves every day, why can't people choose to take a gamble with their lives as well? The vaccine is out there for people to take if they want it. As far as I'm concerned that's all society owes to people. The choice.
A father's anguish after 5-year-old Georgia boy dies from COVID-19: "I have lost my best friend"
"....Researchers at Georgetown University have identified five under-vaccinated regions of the U.S. that they say could be putting the entire nation at risk, because COVID-19 could mutate so significantly in these areas, it could defeat vaccines.
Portions of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and New Mexico are part of these clusters.
Georgia has reported 18,632 COVID-19 deaths, and 11 of those deaths have been children, according to data from the Georgia Department of Public Health."

Suicide by taking an overdose of drugs/hanging/whatever is quite a different matter than “suicide” by willingly exposing oneself to the risk of infection from a communicable disease. The former does not involve a highly transmittable pathogen.

So? It's also different than suicide by jumping off a building. Besides it's a risk not a suicide attempt. More akin to base jumping than defenestration. Have you ever heard of a suicide method that had a 99% survival rate?

The point is, one manner of “suicide” puts other people in the community at risk. And that’s “suicide” by COVID.
The governor is saying these folks are unreasonable, selfish, and lacking in common sense. And she is saying it is time to blame them.
Free citizens have the right to not take a vaccine.
But if this governor wants to blame someone for the pandemic not ending, blame Pfizer. According to Israel, the vax is only 39% effective in stopping spread.

It only really puts other unvaccinated people at risk. Base jumpers endangering their fellow base jumpers. And like I said if they want to blame themselves if they end up in the hospital that's fine with me.
