The obvious answer to the question posed in the topic is "yes"

I agree. There are other things at play here that will be even more devastating to our society by allowing all of these migrants into our country in such large numbers in a short period of time. What is it costing the taxpayer for their upkeep and yes the added crime is another factor.

How about we all agree that there's two big issues going on here:

1. Half the country who ARE eligible to vaccinate do not do so. That leaves more than half of the country unvaccinated as children under 12 cannot do so. So we have way more unvaccinated than vaccinated.

2. Large groups of clustered people who gather together for a time and then release themselves out thorugh the country. This includes the people at the border, as well as groups like Sturgis going on now.

You can't point the finger at one group and ignore the other and people from both sides are doing it. Everyday there are discussons about unvaccinated and the same people jump on those threads, say it's not true and go on about the border. Alternatively, you can't ignore the border issues either and say it's *just* the unvaccinated.

It's really a myriad of issues. Last year, Sturgis was determined to be the big event that cause massive spikes in infections in all of the states surrounding that area. The border issues are almost the same sort of situation although a little bit different becuase those crossings come in waves versus having 700,000 of them in the same place on one weekend. But still. It gets much harder to see the national effect of an event like that when people disburse farther across the country. Those issues generally happen later as the infected person "seeds" smaller areas and you don't necessarily see an explosion of cases such as what happened with Sturgis.

But even though everyone here is a hypocrite, you can't be hypocritical about this stuff. Don't complain about the border and give Sturgis or the unvaccinated a pass. Don't complain just about the unvaccinated and close your eyes to the border or Sturgis. There are many problems causing a spike and not just your villan-du-jour

Many of these aren't political refugees it is just an excuse for Biden to ship them all over where they can spread covid and skip their hearing.
Correct. They're economic refugees, which are not granted asylum in the US. Deny them entry into the US and send them back.

So you aren't suggesting closing the border to travelers -- just the folks asking for refugee or asylum..

I thought 'close' the border was for all incoming.

Under Trump, Title 42 applied for both POEs and non-designated POEs for non-essential travels.

Under Biden, Title 42 only applies for POEs but not non-designated POEs. That's why you see a lot of migrants crossing over deserts and rivers.
