Geez, notice how there is never a shortage of useful idiots for the Marxists to exploit?

There was only one time the left actually opposed violent riots, Jan 6th. Any other day they celebrated the rioters, cheered their autonomous zones and applauded their destruction. It's difficult not to find a Democrat who does not support Black Lives Matter.

Nobody is dumb enough to work for a city where the woke politicians are looking at every opportunity to throw you under the bus in a job where you have to make split second decisions

There's a shock.

The question is why they are bothering to hire any police? The city royalty does not allow them to do anything anyway besides stand and watch a bunch of leftists throw tantrums and burn things.

I'm laughing. Reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw in OK one time that read, Custer asked for it, Custer got it.

EXCERPTS FROM ABOVE ARTICLE, my italics:

"Since 14 job openings were announced in May, only four police personnel have applied to work with the new version of Portland’s Gun Violence Reduction Team, which was shut down last year amid long-running protests seeking racial justice and an overhaul of police practices. None have yet been assigned.

"Portland officers say such positions, once considered prestigious, are now less desirable, given the increased scrutiny that accompanies them. The new unit has its own citizen-advisory board, instituted after the old unit was criticized by city leaders for racial profiling. A job description says qualifications include the ability to fight systemic racism.

“They’re demonizing and vilifying you, and then they want to put you in a unit where you’re under an even bigger microscope,” said Daryl Turner, head of the union that represents Portland’s officers.

[snip]

"Retirements and resignations are rising at departments across the country. There was an 18% increase in resignations and a 45% increase in retirements from April 2020 through March 2021, when compared with the same period a year earlier, according to a June survey by the Police Executive Research Forum, a Washington, D.C., think tank.

"In addition, officers around the country have become more reluctant to take on tasks that could lead to controversy or criticism following last year’s Black Lives Matter protests over police treatment, according to police officials."
Don't laugh or cry, just know you got suckered by WSJ who got suckered by Daryl Turner the PPA union chief. They are currently in negotiations for a new contract with the city and have no qualms whatsoever to lie about conditions in the city and the department to gain leverage for their membership. (Odd how that fact got overlooked...)

Look at what he's saying. "Portland officers say such positions, once considered prestigious, are now less desirable, given the increased scrutiny that accompanies them" “They’re demonizing and vilifying you, and then they want to put you in a unit where you’re under an even bigger microscope”

Quite simply, they object to any citizen oversight. They want to do what they darn well please and are quite willing to let things run amok in town, not take calls, quit task forces en mass (this is the second such instance) because they refuse to accept they should be held accountable for their actions. This has been going on for years and for the first time in a long time they are feeling pushback from those they are paid to serve and they don't like it one bit. Also keep in mind, the department is under a consent decree from the US DOJ because of corruption, racist activity within the department and disregard of civil rights so of course they are going to attempt to muddy the waters with a new contract coming up. It's all they've got. They and they alone squandered any respect most Portlanders had for the bureau.

It's an issue in all democratic places. And I and others are laughing!

I wouldn't want to be in law enforcement, either.
Here in Chicago as well. MANY officers retired early and want out. And of course everyone in the world knows how bad crime here is. Even the areas that were once safe are now a big issue! Thank you democrat lori lighthead!
