Gee, I wonder why?

https://www.wsj.com/articles/portlan...te-11627896601

EXCERPTS FROM ABOVE ARTICLE, my italics:

"Since 14 job openings were announced in May, only four police personnel have applied to work with the new version of Portland’s Gun Violence Reduction Team, which was shut down last year amid long-running protests seeking racial justice and an overhaul of police practices. None have yet been assigned.

"Portland officers say such positions, once considered prestigious, are now less desirable, given the increased scrutiny that accompanies them. The new unit has its own citizen-advisory board, instituted after the old unit was criticized by city leaders for racial profiling. A job description says qualifications include the ability to fight systemic racism.

“They’re demonizing and vilifying you, and then they want to put you in a unit where you’re under an even bigger microscope,” said Daryl Turner, head of the union that represents Portland’s officers.

[snip]

"Retirements and resignations are rising at departments across the country. There was an 18% increase in resignations and a 45% increase in retirements from April 2020 through March 2021, when compared with the same period a year earlier, according to a June survey by the Police Executive Research Forum, a Washington, D.C., think tank.

"In addition, officers around the country have become more reluctant to take on tasks that could lead to controversy or criticism following last year’s Black Lives Matter protests over police treatment, according to police officials."

I don't even know who would want to be a police officer anymore. You put your life on the line every day. As a "reward" you get berated in the media, have your every move watched, have people who are live streaming on Social Media "testing" you every day to make sure you are compiling with every single aspect. Where the second you make a mistake you find yourself being personally sued, left out to dry by your own department. Then as the super-bonus, if you make a split-second decision that ends up being more serious you could have your own freedom taken away. There is not a single human I know that can be perfect 24/7/365 for their entire lifetime.

There used to be a time when psychological examinations were supposed to keep the "bad eggs" out of law enforcement. But now, just the fact that someone wants to become a police officer should automatically disqualify them due to mental incompetence.

Yep. I clicked on that poll, and 49% said that the police exodus was a GOOD thing. I wonder how many will still say that a year from now?

This is the same as Seattle. Who would want to work at law enforcement in a place where everyone hates you, especially the City Council?

Seattle has an election this tomorrow with mayor and some council seats. I saw a sign for one candidate that had big letters across the top: "HAD ENOUGH YET?"

Hopefully enough people there have had enough and start to vote for more sensible candidates.

They must live either in gated communities or gang members. Oh well, they will reap the benefits of their choices.

Democrats are fine with lawlessness and violence. They've given BLM and Antifa a free pass for a year and a half with little prosecution of violent criminals and arsonists. The Left is an "anything goes" movement. No accountability nor responsibility. Everybody wins!
