It would be pronounced differently than the Chinese name as ks-eye. That would be hard for westerners to say maybe. And omicron has given the covid hoaxers an anagram they can relate to finding their own description in its letters.

Xi is derived from the ancient X (greek letter chi) which was an early "code" used for Christ among Greek Christians. It survives today - as is found in "X"mas. Given the time of year it would have been fitting, I guess. But, no. It's omicron.
