We will be forced down this or some similar path. Even taking the ever more rapidly rising out-of-pocket individual cost of it out of the picture, using gasoline and diesel as our primary sources for transportation energy is simply not an affordable long-term strategy.

No matter what the cost of gas or the reasons for it, people have to make their own choices on dealing with it. One cannot blame this reason or that reason, because much of the general population is part of the problem also. People are quick to blame in the USA, more than I have ever seen in some other areas of the world. People do not conserve. They do not respect the fact that we here in the USA consume so much of this planets oil . We blame and whine about this high cost of gas. We blame McDonalds and fast food restaurants for some of the reasons for obseity. That one really makes me wonder about people in general, blaming others because you got fat. We blame cigarette manufactures because people got cancer. It seems one should be taking responsiblity for themselves. The same with the high gas. If we keep seeing all these buses half empty and the big SUV's then basically there is not enough hardship for many Americans as of yet anyway. When the roads show a huge decrease in vehicles especially the big vehicles, and cities start showing a dramatic increase in bus service, then maybe things will have changed abit. I hope so. In the meantime learn what your legs are for, when you can anyway. Most of all learn that the world is changing in a huge way and one has to change with it. The days of riding around all day every day are quickly coming to an end for many.

I agree...Getting the family around (including our Golden Retriever) is much easier and more comfortable in our Murano; however, you would never see me on the news complaining about how much it costs for me to fill up the tank. It was my choice to trade in my Accord - knowing full well that it would hurt at the gas pump.

In fact, I was watching the news this morning and it hit me that they never show interviews with people that think gas is too cheap. I personally think it is. I don't like the idea of it costing more than it does to fill up my gas tank right now, but maybe $6 or $8 gasonline will force cities to develop better mass transit, force people to use the mass transit, and force people to live closer to work or work closer to home.

Coincidence, then? I'm cribbing Bill Maher on this, but a former oilman with oilman buddies gets elected and gas goes from $1 a gallon to $4 a gallon. That's like if Colonel Sanders got elected and fried chicken shot up to $50 a bucket...

The mere fact we have reserves is not impacting prices at the pump that much any way - maybe .01

You said Bush has "everything" to do with prices - so, in your opinion, Bush is calling all the oil companies, all the gas stations all over the country and telling them what to price gas at - after all - YOU said "everything"

Your conspiracy theories are being bashed into saw dust all over the boards - we can make this one of yours wood pulp also
