So, our immunologist in chief is "hoping" there won't be negative impact from forcing children wearing masks all day.
" The White House chief health adviser said it is important to keep an “open mind” about masking after the CDC recently issued new guidance recommending that teachers, staff, and students wear face coverings indoors — even if they are vaccinated.
“It’s not comfortable, obviously, for children to wear masks, particularly the younger children,” Fauci said."
IMO, for young children learning to communicate, the lack of visual clues from observing a person's face will either slow down learning or impart indistinct information.
From a completely nerdy point of view, I am curious about how it affects infants and toddlers, who react largely to facial features, and don't have object permanence yet. Those results are the ones that will interest me the most.
"1. Facial expressions
How we use them: We use our faces to express how we’re feeling, whether or not we intend to. We raise our eyebrows when questioning something, smile wide when happy and sulk when we feel angry.
Why they matter: Facial expressions can be the most obvious social cues. It’s hard to hide an emotion when it’s “written all over your face.” And it can be frustrating when someone fails to “read” how we’re feeling.
What can happen when kids miss them: In the hallway, Leah spots her favorite teacher, who’s talking sternly to another student. Leah runs toward him, yelling, “Hi Mr. Lenz! Mr. Lenz, hey!” He turns to her and furrows his eyebrows and raises a finger at her to say “Just a minute.” But Leah keeps running his way."

BTW they can still learn on TV and with family....
We are literally just battling to share contaminated air with strangers...
Many seem to forget the context in which we reside: A pandemic. A pandemic with its causal virus now surging with a dangerous variant. In an ideal world without a deadly virus --- that has caused more than 36,780,480 US cases of COVID-19 and cost the lives of 633,799 Americans --- perhaps more weight could be given to the anti-maskers' arguments, but we don't live in an ideal world right now, do we?
Masks remain a simple but powerful tool to protect against COVID-19, especially for children too young to get the vaccine. Masks are an important tool in preventing COVID's spread, especially as the dangerous DELTA variant circulates among unvaccinated children. They are safe and effective for anyone over 2 years old. Don't hesitate to talk with your child's pediatrician if you have any questions about your child wearing face masks.
