The ceremony honoring the life and service of the slain policewoman Ella French was cut short at the order of the First Deputy Police Commissioner, allegely for "exponentially delaying" (whatever that means) her family.

Could it be because she was white and both the mayor and the second in command of the police department are black? The mayor supported his decision. Mayor Lightfoot is a known racist - don't know about the deputy commissioner.

The shortened ritual was a normal ceremony for an officer killed in the line of duty.

That's a rather rude assumption with no proof. In all things, her families wishes should be a priority and it's already been a lot for them to take in.

Unless you hear her family complaining you should not try to hijack something into racial division Jussie.

I wish the Chicago police officers would resign en masse until Lightfoot resigns. I'm sure the police officers would have gladly transported the family to wherever they wanted to go without any delay.

Second in command ordered it. Very disrespectful.

First Deputy Police Supt. Eric Carter infuriated officers gathered Saturday night at the Cook County medical examiner’s office to give their slain colleague, Ella French, a final send-off.
Ignoring a sacred ritual, Carter impatiently declared: “We don’t have 20 minutes for this s---.” He demanded the Chicago Fire Department ambulance bearing French’s body be taken directly into the medical examiner’s office, skipping the Emerald Society’s traditional playing of bagpipes.
“We’re not waiting on the bagpipes. Go ahead and get the vehicle inside,” Carter is heard saying on a recording.
“Take it all the way inside. Do not stop.”
