I guess I'll have to wait to become a homeowner so I can fight for my right to keep people I consider "beneath me" from moving into my neighborhood, what a noble quest. And then we can work together to make sure only those with property are allowed to vote like in the olden days, etc. etc. etc. Eventually I'll feel way more comfortable letting the forces of the capitalist game we've set up burden people whose circumstances I don't know unfairly with the cost of living in crime-ridden deteriorating slums than I will in encouraging some basic regulation of that game so that people whose circumstances I don't know are unfairly burdened with the cost of having a few poor people living near them.
Hehe. You'll see. After a litte life experience, you'll see that those people do it to themselves. They're the ones who re-elect crack smoking mayors and the likes of Kwame Kilpatrick. When dealing with the government you have to submit to people less intelligent than you as if they're superior, you'll understand.
What have you read that's brought you to these idealistic notions?
Not fair, but your argument only works based on the unsubstantiated premise that most section 8 renters are single mothers of four with drug dealing boyfriends (how would she be single then, anyway?)
I see it all the time since I am in real estate and was in social services before that. Maybe I should have said unmarried to clarify for you. I don't know how old you are or what your experience in life, but not being a property owner you might not be able to relate to this the way others adversely affected would be.

History books. You remind me of some of the characters. If buying a house will indeed bring me to your level of irrational resentment towards "those people" then I hope I end up as a Section 8 renter.

When you hear section8 you already have a picture of it in your mind. I believe there are people that need it and many that abuse it, but the ones that abuse it would do so no matter where they lived.
The way our economy is going, we may have a whole new group for section 8.
I wish there were some way to give our elderly a cut rate on utilities. When we lived in Portland, there were many that died because they could not affort their heat.
I do think there is a place for section 8 for those that truly need it.

Come on, history books?
It's not irrational resentment. It's a belief that property rights is an underpinning of our way of life and Sec 8 and the like are infringements on it. You don't even have a basic grasp of our way of life or human nature, yet feel confident to tell others how to run their life... or atleast, you feel confident enough to apply the force of government to ruin people's lives.
I resent that the education system has failed you so bad that you probably think FDR is a great president and know nothing of Locke. It's scary... all I can do is hope that you don't vote yet.

Back in Michigan, years ago, there was a farm where the homeless could come. There, they were housed and grew their own food.
The leftists came in and shut it down because, since working the farm was a requirement, they were legally bound to pay minimum wage.
Leftists in the government don't care about people. They care about socialism.

That is really sad, if we could have more of those there would be less homeless and less hungry. It would also give them a feeling of self worth which I think a lot of these folks may have lost, or taken away. I agree with you about our government.
I thnik evrybody knows which housing units are section 8.
It's either the foul odor or the garbage strewn everywhere that's the biggest tip-off.
The solution for Section 8 is real simple. There are 1,000s of military surplus Quonset Huts that can be obtained and set up to provide housing for those who need it.
Section 8 helps poor people who otherwise wouldnt be able to pay for a place to live. Nothing wrong with that in the least.
