I knew (between divorce court and teacher unions) that not having kids was the right move. To add this on top of all the insanity would be too much. You don’t own your kids, you just pay-rent. They are wards of the state and force will be used to keep you in line.

Then children should not be sent to any school that is of this mindset.
Nor should the state have any say in how much $$$ parents contribute to schools. If parents don't get a say in what is taught in schools, they should get recourse by voting with their money.

Hello? “Public” school means parents do not pick and choose what is in the curriculum - teachers do. A dissenting parent has to pull the kid out of school and homeschool. This is not a new thing.
I am an educator. No. They choose what is taught through school board elections. Parents absolutely should have a say in what their children are taught, they are, after all, their children. The attitude you and the governor have is what is wrong with education.

Wrong!!!. Schools are controlled locally with guidance from the PTA which is made up of PARENTS. Teachers are supposed to be delivering the curriculum agreed on by the PTA and school board which is elected. Teachers should not have ANY say in what is taught.

The "PTA" is nothing more than the fundraising arm of the Local School who may or may not bring some extracurricular programs such as art or music to a school. At the State and National levels, they are nothing more than lobbyists.
The local PTA has zero say in any sort of curriculum that is taught.

No, "public school" means the school is run by the public, through school boards. The parents absolutely have a say in the curriculum and teachers never decide the curriculum, it comes from on high which books they will use and what they will teach.

Parents shouldn't determine curriculum besides this is not a majority of parents generating this movement it's a few that are unhappy. The only changes I recall where involved parents was adding in advanced courses, other than that parents should not be determining curriculboards.um. Most text books and course outlines are determined at the state level not school.
This is a few unhappy parents, they don't get to determine teaching agenda, if they don't like it they have alternatives.
Teachers unions are probably the single biggest problem with public education.
I would say parents are the largest issue, single parent families and others that are irresponsible with their children are a large reason for poor performance.
