Taiwan claims it is the legitimate government of China. It calls itself the Republic of China.

Mainland China claims it is the legitimate government of China. It calls itself the People's Republic of China.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politi...atus_of_Taiwan

If both claim to be the legitimate government of China, then our defense of Taiwan is tantamount to picking a side in a Civil War. Which is a violation of Chinese National Sovereignty and thus an act of war.

Imagine if during the American Civil War, Britain and France sent their navies to break the union blockade of the south and threatened war with the union if they invaded the south.

Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong but I thought China is the world's biggest supplier of rare earth elements used in the semi conductor industry ?

I think the better initial action would be to ban all trade and travel to China and initiate severe financial sanctions, including freezing all Chinese funds.

If the US does not have the political fortitude to do this^, we will never war against China.

Considering all the stupid autocrats in charge and their mandates, that will likely be happening quite soon.

This gets old. Can you defend the current "President", yes or no? I am tired of hearing about Donald Trump. This fiasco, like most of the other problems right now, is the current administration's problem and the American citizen's problem.

biden is a buffoon and no one respects him or fears any retaliation from him. What is he going to do to China? Drone another car full of innocent civilians? Demand they give hunter a raise? What?

This is on biden, whether we like it or not. But, man I wish Donald Trump was in charge right now.

Are you aware of what treaties are in existence? I'm not. I think that's a crucial first question.

But it does seem that China is getting more aggressive, and maybe it's time for western allies to sit down and thrash it out.

We wouldn't even be having this discussion if the Chinese hadn't succeeded in getting Biden elected/installed.
