To somewhat sideline, I've also seen proposals to split the CONUS into just two time zones, instead of four (I think the idea was to merge Eastern and Central into one time zone, and Mountain and Pacific into another one.)
Then me living in the Central time zone can't call my brother in Eastern time to see what the future holds........well, for at least the next hour.
It isn't broken, I don't see a good reason to mess with it.
Yes, its annoying but so are liberals generally and we don't have a good option of getting rid of them either. we just deal.
Changing clocks twice a year for no good reason is good enough reason for me.
I never liked Daylight Savings Time. I have lived mostly in the southwest and in the summer we sure don't need an extra hour of sunlight when our temps get over 100 degrees. It would save on our air conditioning bills. Back east there is no need for it not to get dark until 10 pm either.
It's north/south, not east/west
In Helena (46d35m28s N, 112d01m13s W) sunrise is 5:30 am in June and sunset is 9:25. But solar noon is 1:30, so they should be in the middle of MST. In December, it's 8:10am to 4:45.
In Tucson (32d13m18s N, 110d55m35s W - so only 1 degree west of Helena) in December, it's 7:25am to 5:30pm. In June (adjusting for the lack of savings time), sunrise is 5:15am in MT and sunset is 7:30pm.

830 in the northeast is the latest during the summer. Not 10PM
