Laptops given to students during the virus were used to spy on them. Included the monitoring of chats and emails. Their rationale was they were looking for suicidal students.

Also noted that the wealthy with their own devices were monitored less.

Isn' there an equity issue there?

According to the link, “disadvantaged students have less privacy doing perverted things all teenagers do”.

Bingo.

If it's not your device, there is no reasonable expecation of privacy. Kids probably don't understand this, but parents certainly should.

It's not just progressives. Conservatives have been known to be like this also.. the puritan wing. Also corporations frequently monitor almost everything an employee does these days. We are not humans, we are cogs in a machine to them.

It should be expected that any issued laptops will be monitored. It would be easy enough for a windows geek to find out what software is installed unless they get clever and use hardware keyloggers (unlikely) .. if you just went and formatted the entire thing and installed windows from scratch they'd probably confiscate the laptop, but if I was a young geek that's exactly what I would do. Chuckle. Knowing liberals they probably got Apple devices.

On the one hand I agree. It's Not yours. It was given to you by your school , by our tax dollars, to do School things. Deal with it.

People who can afford their own don't have to deal with that as much. They both have Equal opportunity to use personal ones. There is no discrimination. They both have opportunity to do School Work. Stop perving on anime sites on public laptops.

On the other hand, I agree that leftys will use it to monitor for thought crimes.

So just use it for what it's meant for. School Stuff. not editing the Tik Toks or your Best of Ben Shapiros.

Actually they are. Public schools, we all pay for them.

They don't miss an opportunity do they...

These programs, such as Bark, Gnosis IQ, Gaggle, and Lightspeed, can cost the schools tens of thousands of dollars to implement, and they can be set up to search for language and online behavior indicating the possibility of violent tendencies, suicidal ideation, drug use, pornography use, or eating disorders.

Obviously nobody wants these things to happen to school age kids, but at some point we have to decide if we are going to do freedom, or are we going to do utopia according to the liberal elite world view.
