Personally I’m not sure The wife handles the grocery shopping in the family. Though the other day she was complaining about the cost of steak.
When I pick up a few items it does not seem so bad but when my wife does the regular shopping she
comes home saying, "Oh my God, the cost of everything is through the roof! Every time I go the prices have gone up again.".
Shelves are full at my store. In fact, I haven't seen a store where shelves are empty in this area. Prices are the same as during the pandemic. I was hoping they would decrease, but they've stayed the same. There's only an increase in certain items: all meat, for example (but frozen meatballs haven't gone up... strange).
Gas has gone up, but that is a product of demand outpacing supply. It doesn't bother me because I don't drive much anymore: there isn't anyplace I really want to go.
Meat prices are way up. I know that because I buy the meat. We are buying less beef but still spending more.
My wife tracks our costs for various items like utilities, auto fuel, groceries etc. She says our grocery expenses are up quite a bit year to date.
I would expect that younger families with children children might be feeling the pinch.
I haven't noticed an overall hit to the budget but there are a few sticker shock items on the shelves (or not). Gas is up, but we don't use a lot of it so maybe it is costing a couple bucks more a week. Our income is up too from last year. It's probably a wash.
